Description

A small goose with three sub-species, these birds adapted to eating sea lettuce in 1931 when where was a blight on its regular food supply of eelgrass.

This print is part of a series of Music Bird Paintings, featuring watercolour and ink illustrations of different species of birds on aged, acid-free music sheets. These prints measure 5”x7”, are printed by inkjet onto FSC (Forest Sustainability Certified) paper with a textured, linen weave to help bring out the colour and the detail.

This print is part a special sale: for every Music Bird Print sold, 90% of earnings will go to the Adsum Women & Children’s shelter and housing, an organization who saw an expansive rise in the demand of their services at the start of the pandemic and onwards. In an order of any Music Bird print (of which I will send anywhere, you just gotta send an email, message, or DM to let me know!), you’ll also get a hand-printed card on watercolour paper that says “You are so ducking cute.”

With an eye for the odd, Amber Solberg is an illustrator, artist, craftsperson & instructor. Hailing from the prairies, she headed east to the ocean and now splits her time between Alberta and Nova Scotia.

Since receiving a Visual Arts Diploma from Red Deer College (AB) and an Interdisciplinary BFA from NSCAD University (NS), she’s evolved her practice to revolve around nature, conscious creation and storytelling. That, and that humour is her jam (although not what she’d want on toast).

With watercolours, ink, and embroidery thread, she makes work that spans from the technical to the expressive, all with an underlying creativity. Whether it’s in the process of creation or the result of what’s produced, a lot of contemporary artistic practice creates waste. In an effort to be more thoughtful of my impact to others and to the environment around me, this shop lists efforts to DO GOOD: be it through fundraising for animals, tree-planting, waste reduction and reuse or otherwise.
